"Bette Machete & the Jumping Fleas" is an all-women's ukulele club based in Worcester, Mass.
The ukulele was brought to Hawaii in the late 19th century by musicians from the Madeira islands - they called the stringed instrument a "machete". An early player who was known to fidget and jump about, may have been the inspiration for locals calling the instrument the "ukulele" which roughly translates from the Hawaiian as "jumping flea."
Betty Machete & the Jumping Fleas will perform several well-known children's songs and welcome all to sing along!
